Application of Remote Sensing in Forest Land Monitoring
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
It has over the time been proven that a region’s natural resources in any form needs to be conserved, monitored and protected. Hence the establishment of protected areas or forest reserves across all regions of the world in order to ensure sustainable forest resources conservation. Despite that, the rate of deforestation has incessantly increasd in most protected areas, which is due to increasing anthropogenic activities - leading to misuse of forest land for Agricultural & construction purposes. In order to assist forest officials in their call to monitor these forests, the technology of remote sensing has been a pivotal tool. However, the discourse of forest management has not only been a topic matter in the biodiversity sector, but also an aspect that has gotten significant research attention. With the usefulness of this technology, researchers have been able to dive into finding out how this technology can help in achieving forest mapping, monitoring and management. Therefore with the increasing interest in the utilization of Remote Sensing for forest management, this issue aims at allowing forest management with remote sensing forge ahead and also provide a medium for more awareness of the technology in the assessment of deforestation rates, forest land use & cover change as well as assessment of forest health.
