Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Our special issue is “Novel Therapeutics for Autoimmune Disorders and Immune-mediated inflammatory diseases”.

Autoimmune diseases, which affect up to 5 percent of the population in different regions, suffer from a case of mistaken identity. The immune system is supposed to protect us from infectious diseases or tumors. Yet, during autoimmune diseases the immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys components of our body, which then causes, for example, type 1 diabetes (T1D), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), multiple sclerosis (MS) or rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

Immune-mediated inflammatory diseases are common and clinically diverse. Although they are currently incurable, the therapeutic armamentarium for immune-mediated inflammatory diseases has been transformed in the past two decades. We have moved from the wide application of broad-spectrum immune modulators to the routine use of agents with exquisite specificity, arising from monoclonal and molecular biotechnology and more recently from highly targeted medicinal chemistry.

Our mission is to bring innovative and transformational therapies to patients with chronic autoimmune diseases or immune-mediated inflammatory diseases, via induction of mechanisms that restore immune homeostasis. We will focus on translating novel scientific insights into therapies for patients with inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. We do not rely on traditional immune suppressive mechanisms but focus on the therapeutic induction of natural mechanisms of immune homeostasis to modulate immune function. The ultimate objective was to developing innovative therapies and improving the quality of life for patients with chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.

In this special issue, all article types are welcome including original research articles, review articles, clinical trials, case reports, commentaries, correspondence articles, short reports, etc.
