With acceleration of social development and the rapid expansion of the world population, land resource has become the key element of sustainable development. The special Issue is  the research of land use/land cover classification system, land degradation monitoring and evaluation index system and land resources sustainable using  multi-source remote sensing data and  Geographic Information System to evaluate index system and its information extraction and evaluation methods will be mainly carried out, and remote sensing monitoring and evaluation index system of land resources and ecological environment at different scales will be established in-depth mining of the information extraction methods of land resources quantity and quality based on GIS & different remote sensing data (including Hyperion, OMISI-I hyper spectral remote sensing data and MODIS, TM (ETM+, SPOT and other multispectral remote sensing data).The indicators of monitoring and evaluation will be applied to planning and policy formulation, and monitoring, evaluation, planning and policy orientation are organically connected with the index system as the base point, the indicator system of relevant planning is determined, and the theories and methods of comprehensive monitoring, evaluation and planning of land resources and ecological environment are enriched, so as to provide scientific basis for regional sustainable use planning and implementation.
