Special Issue Information

In conditions of global uncertainty, the modern economy is experiencing a renaissance of increased attention to industrial policy aimed at creating a sustainable, structurally balanced, import-independent economy, developing strategies to reduce imbalances in the internal economic space of regions and industries based on the integration and industrial localization.

This Special Issue aims to develop a coherent vision and perspectives of the integrated industrial, territorial, innovation and regional policy approach to support the sustainable development of the economic space, and to explore its implications in terms of the design and implementation of progressive economic structure, as well as smart specialization strategies that are consistent with that policy concept.

There is a need to understand how effective economic policy can contribute to the industrial structure resilience to external shocks, involve inter-regional reserves in the process of economic reproduction, stimulate sustainable development practices and eventually increase the quality of life of local citizens.

These aspects are critical because they have a direct impact on the strategic priorities of government budget policy, focusing limited budget funds on certain areas in order to maximize their effectiveness.

This Special Issue is an interdisciplinary forum for the analysis of policy and practice issues at regional, local and urban levels. It connects academic and practitioner communities by exploring the interface between academic debates and policy design, implementation and results.

Ultimately, consideration of the above and other issues will contribute to the formation of a single methodological basis for balanced and sustainable territorial development.
