Abstract
In recent years, it has become common practice in China for enterprises to issue a public apology on Sina Weibo, a prominent social media platform, when corporations face criticism for alleged wrongdoings. A successful corporate apology can not only extricate corporations from public crisis but also restore trust with customers and investors. The study aims to investigate how the corporate apologies on Sina Weibo are structured. Using Swales’ CARS model, the author identifies seven move types in a self-built corpus of twenty-two apology statements issued on Sina Weibo.
