Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The phenomenon of urbanization and the expansion of cities has fostered social and economic progress at the global level, but has also contributed to the development of situations of degradation and poverty related to the inadequate management of natural resources at the local level, the scarcity or total absence of funds to support basic services and adequate housing facilities for all.

Currently more than 800 million people live in cities in conditions of urban decay and poverty. The International 2030 Agenda, set relevant goals related to access to housing and basic services for the vulnerable population, promoting a rethinking of cities which today are the major contributors to the growing pressure on the environment, with high shares of natural resource withdrawals and pollutant returns, and the associated implications on public health and safety. The purpose of this Special Issue is to invite academics and researchers to submit proposals for papers that deal with the housing policy in urban development in an innovative and sustainable key. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

- Sustainable urban development;

- Urban regeneration: tools, techniques and case studies;

- Real estate market and housing affordability;

- Governance in spatial planning decisions;

- Assessment methods and techniques for urban development.
