Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Invasive species are, and will continue to be, a complex challenge both from a scientific knowledge perspective and for the conservation management of native flora and fauna. Their direct and nearly immediate impact is most often causing population imbalances, then will follow affecting habitat and resources, reaching an eventual climax later on. The major problem for native species is that they are repeatedly exposed to different stages of the same or various invasive species that are more or less in the process of becoming established, and most often the natural countermeasures are ineffective. In this context, any scientifically validated information is particularly valuable, from rapid communication of new records in new areas to complex and multidisciplinary analyses. In particular, invasions in aquatic ecosystems require a habitat-specific approach to accurately reflect the reality on the ground.

We propose in this special issue a collection of scientific papers to help the accumulation of knowledge in understanding the effect of this global phenomenon on freshwater species population, diversity and accordingly management strategies. And, articles about advanced approaches such as remote sensing, data analysis, machine learning of invasive species monitoring and fish conservation are also welcomed.
