Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

All articles published in Journal of Analytical Chromatography and Spectroscopy are accessible electronically from the journal website without commencing any kind of payment. In order to ensure contents are freely available and maintain publishing quality, Article Process Charges (APC) is applicable to all authors who wish to submit their articles to the journal to cover the cost incurred in processing the manuscripts. Such cost will cover the peer-review, copyediting, typesetting, publishing, content depositing and archiving processes. Those charges are applicable only to authors who have their manuscript successfully accepted after peer-review.

Research News: New Method to Analyse Haloacetic Acids, Bromate and Dalapon is 50% Faster than Current USEPA Method

Wu et. al. present a new method to analyse nine haloacetic acids (HAAs), bromate, and dalapon plus four potentially more toxic iodinated HAAs in natural waters by coupling ion chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (IC-MS/MS). The new method is 50% faster than the current USEPA method 557 including more compounds and achieving sub-µg/L level detection limits for all 15 target analytes.

HAAs are one of the most commonly detected disinfection by-products in US water utilities. Some of them are regulated by the USEPA and have been classified as potentially carcinogenic. HAAs have traditionally been analysed by GC methods, which require derivatisation and sample extraction, which are laborious, time-consuming, and can have a negative effect on reproducibility.

Research News: New Triple Quadrupole ICP-MS Combines Power and Simplicity

The new Thermo Scientific iCAP TQ ICP-MS systemmade its debut at Pittcon 2017 at McCormick Place, Chicago. The easy-to-use system, developed to support ultralow detection limits, offers advanced interference removal capabilities designed to overcome interferences common in challenging matrices. It is also designed to provide reliable and reproducible data for a range of applications.

“There’s a growing need to push the boundaries of detection, especially in metallurgy, clinical research, pharmaceutical compliance, environmental science, food safety and geoscience,” said Adrian Holley, marketing director, trace elemental analysis, Thermo Fisher. “Our customers want the detection limits and accuracy of triple quadrupole technology with the ease of a single quad, and the iCAP TQ ICP-MS delivers that combination of power and simplicity.”
