Abstract   In today’s market, managers are being pressurized to deliver the product in a reliable and cost effective manner. The aim of the present work is to model a transportation problem where decision maker has a flexibility to set his own reliability level when he minimizes the overall transportation cost. To achieve this goal, the overall reliability of transportation system is calculated and a mathematical model of transportation problem is formulated. A numerical experiment is also conducted to illustrate the proposed model.
