Dear colleagues,

The forest ecosystems are paramount for the existence of all living creatures and their well-being. Humans get different services that can be grouped into provision, regulation, cultural and other supporting services from forests. Components viz., vegetation, soil and microbes, etc., interaction of forest ecosystems helps in climate regulation, water and air purification and nutrient recycling. Forests can play a vital role in global economic growth due to interconnection between economic systems and health of forest. The World Bank study suggests 53 % increase in income of forest user group through forest based enterprises in Andhra Pradesh, India. Globally ~1-1.5 billion people either directly or indirectly are benefitted from forest. Forests cover about a third of the planet’s land area. Ecosystem services of forests are also significant to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) mandated by United Nations. The rich biodiversity of healthy forest makes it more resilient against climate change. It also provides livelihood support to forest-dwelling communities. This Special Issue on “Recent Perspectives of Forest Ecosystem and Economy” addresses current state of forest ecosystem and their services and role in global economy.
