Dr. Hiraoka graduated from Kyoto University School of Medicine in 1952.  He has been appointed as chair and professor of radiation oncology and image-applied therapy at Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine since 1995.  Dr. Hiraoka worked for Director of Kyoto University Nanomedicine Merger Education Unit for 2006-2010, Director of Kyoto University Hospital Cancer Center for 2007-2009, Vice-director of office of society-academia collaboration for innovation of Kyoto University, and currently Director of Japanese Red Cross Wakayama Medical Center. He had been chairman of board members of Japanese Society for Radiation Oncology for 4 years since 2009.  He is president of Japanese Board of Cancer Therapy.  He also is working for president of Federation for Radiation Oncology (FARO) which was founded in 2014. He had worked as Editor-in-Chief for “International Journal of Clinical Oncology” and also for Breast Cancer”. Dr. Hiraoka has been working for development of an innovative radiotherapy system (Vero4DRT) since 2000, and realized tumor tracking stereotactic body radiotherapy for lung cancer and intensity-modulated radiotherapy for pancreas cancer with real-time monitoring for the first time in the world. For those academia-industry collaboration activities and clinical contributions, he received several prominent awards including Award of Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry for Development of High-precision Radiotherapy System in 2008, Prize of Komei-Nakayama Award of Japan Society of Clinical Oncology in 2009 and Prizes for Science and Technology of the Commendation for Science and Technology by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in 2013.
