Dr. Yi Bao is an Assistant Professor in civil engineering and directs the Smart Infrastructure Lab at Stevens Institute of Technology. Dr. Bao is an expert in the fields of intelligent sensors and health monitoring technologies with applications in civil and mechanical structures. His group developed distributed fiber optic sensing technologies and wireless sensors for the monitoring of large-scale structures subjected to multi-hazards (e.g., earthquake, fire, scouring, etc.) and the process control of building-scale 3D printing. His group is developing AI-powered smart distributed sensors, wireless sensors, and robots for monitoring energy infrastructure such as pipelines and offshore wind turbines. His group also does the structural testing and numerical modelling of large-scale structures as well as knowledge-guided data-driven prediction, analysis, and design of materials and structures.
