Wael A. Altabey has been a professor of Mechanical Engineering department, Faculty of Engineering, Alexandria University, Alexandria, Egypt. He is currently associate professor at the International Institute of Urban Systems Engineering (IIUSE), and researcher and visiting scholar at National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Basalt Fiber Production and Application Technology, Southeast University, Nanjing, China. He was awarded a postdoctoral research certificate in 2018, from Southeast University, Nanjing, China, after completing a postdoctoral research fellowship for two years in Artificial Intelligence (AI) based schemes for structural health monitoring (SHM), and damage detection of composite structures, under the supervision of Professor Noori, he is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at California Polytechnic State University, USA, and a Distinguished Visiting National Chair Professor at Southeast University, Nanjing, China. Dr. Altabey received his PhD in 2015 in the area of fatigue of composite structures and his M.Sc., 2009, in dynamic systems and his B.Sc. with honours degree, 2004, in Mechanical Engineering, from Mechanical Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, Alexandria University. As a researcher, he has completed supervision of doctoral and Master thesis projects, in the areas of artificial intelligence for damage identification based methodologies under the direction of the main professor, and has published over 60 journal papers and several conference proceeding papers with his team. Dr. Altabey has published over 50 journal and refereed papers, 29 refereed conference papers, 9 books, 10 chapters in books, one SHM Software Copyrights, 3 under registration US patent, supervised three finished research projects and other research projects still under work and has organised three international conferences with his team in Southeast University. Dr. Altabey is an International Association of Computer Science and Information Technology (IACSIT) Membership, and serves as an editorial board member of four journals in his work field, and has delivered over 20 invited talks.
My research interests:
• Artificial Intelligence (AI) based schemes for structural health monitoring (SHM) and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) for damage classification, detection, diagnosis, prognosis and dynamic response analysis in composite, and steel Structures (such as aircrafts, wind turbines, pipes, and industrial machines);
• Carbon/Basalt fibers and FRP composite technologies, advanced sensor technologies and structural health/risk/disaster monitoring, control, resilience and reliability and smart infrastructure;
• Advances in the design of energy harvesting for self-powered sensors in Internet of Things (IOT);
• Fatigue Behavior of composite structures; and
• Micro/Nano Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS/ NEMS).
