Prof. Lev Vilen Eppelbaum
Tel Aviv University, Israel
Lev V. Eppelbaum received the M.Sc in Geophysics (1982) at the University of Oil and Chemistry (Oil Academy) in Baku (Azerbaijan) and Ph.D. (1989) at the Institute of Geophysics in Tbilisi (Georgia) and Moscow Mining Academy. In 1982-1983 he conducted geophysical investigations in the Central Geological Institute of Non-Ferrous and Rare metals (“TsNIGRI”). From 1983 to 1990 he worked as a Researcher and Senior Researcher at the Institute of Geophysics in Baku (Southern Branch of the All-Union Geophysical Prospecting Institute). During 1991-1992 he had Postdoctoral Studies at the Department of Geophysics, Tel Aviv University (TAU). From 1993 to 2005 he occupied positions of Researcher, Senior Researcher and Senior Lecturer; in February 2005 he received at this Dept. a position of Research Professor.
He is author of more than 350 publications, including 9 books: “Interpretation of Geophysical Fields in Complicated Environments”, (Kluwer Acad. Publ., Ser.: Modern Approaches in Geophysics, 1996), “Some Physical Foundations of Geodynamics” (Kedem Publ., Israel, 2001), “Iron and its unique role in the Earth evolution” (Mexican Geoph. Soc. Monogr. Ser., 2006), “Geophysical Studies in the Caucasus” (Springer, 2012), “Applied Geothermics” (Springer, 2014), and “Pressure and Temperature Well Testing” (CRC, Taylor & Francis), “Geological-Geophysical Investigations ij Azerbaijan”: “Geology of Azerbaijan” and “Economic Minerals & Applied Geophysics” (Springer, 2016), “Potential Geophysical Fields” (Elsevier, 2018), 150 articles and 60 Proceedings.
Prof. L. Eppelbaum main research interests is advanced processing and interpretation of potential and quasi-potential geophysical fields, paleomagnetic reconstructions, geodynamics, tectonics, development of 3D physical-geological models as well as integrated interpretation of geophysical and related data. His separate attention is paid to advanced analysis of different earthquake precursors. His scientific interests includes also searching different kinds of economic deposits, localization of karst phenomena in complex environments, and unmasking buried archaeological remains.
Prof. Eppelbaum gives at TAU courses “Potential Geophysical Fields”, “Environmental Geophysics”, and “Archaeological Geophysics”.
He is member of Society of Exploration Geophysicists, EuroScience, American Geophysical Union, European Association of Exploration Geophysicists, International Society for Archaeological Prospection, International Association for Promoting Geoethics,EARSeL SIG (remote sensing and archaeology), International Association of Sedimentologists, Society of Mediterranean Geologists and Geophysicists and Israel Geological Society.
He is Assoc. Editor in the “Geophysical Instrumentation, Methods and Data System” and “International Journal of Materials, Methods & Technologies”, member of Editorial Board of the “Archaeological Discovery”, “Positioning”, “International Jour. of Earthquake Engineering”,“Open Mineralogical Processing Journal”, “Open Petroleum Engineering Journal”, “LatinMag Letters” and Guest Editor of “Advances in Geosciences”, “Jour. of Geophysics and Engineering” and “Near-Surface Geophysics”. He was selected as chairperson and member of Organization Committee at 19 International Scientific Conferences. He is a member of the International Commission “Rotation of the Earth”and member of the Webmed Central Ecology Advisory Board.
In January 2017 Prof. Lev Eppelbaum was elected as Foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences.
