Abstract

The susceptibility of third instar Sesamia nonagrioides to six strains of three entomopathogenic fungal species, i.e. Metarhizium robertsii, Beauveria bassiana and Isaria fumosorosea, was tested under laboratory conditions. High virulence was recorded, ranging from 78 to 98% mortality, with the most profound effects being observed in treatments with B. bassiana, I. fumosorosea and M. robertsii. The median lethal time (LT50) for L3 was 4.3days in M. robertsii Elateridae, 4.1 days I. fumosorosea Ag. Stefanos and 4 days in B. bassiana Ige3. All three fungal species, especially I. fumosorosea, showed a high potential for the biocontrol of S. nonagrioides larvae.
